Fairfax County has a little known program available for the elderly called “Home repair for the Elderly.” It is open to eligible seniors and disabled homeowners.
Types of repairs provided include: Interior and exterior painting , Minor electrical repair and replacement , Window and door repair , Minor plumbing repair and replacement, Screen replacement for windows and doors, Gutter, Installation of grab bars, railings and other accessibility devices to assist the elderly and disabled.
They don’t do emergency work, but can sometimes expedite work for items like: Roof leaks, Broken hot water heaters (Electrical only), Electrical shorts or rewiring and Plumbing leaks; although, when it comes to roofing problems, they prefer to call a local roof repair company.
The county may provide up to $500 in materials to complete repairs – up to 1 week of free labor is provided as well.
