Capital One received final approval for their 470 feet new corporate headquarters in McLean back in May this year. Since then, Scotts Crossing and the Gates of McLean has seen a daily dump-truck-rush from the excavations taking place for the building foundation and parking.
The new Capital One Corporate Headquarters may not sound that tall if you are from New York. There it wouldn’t even be close to be on list of the 100 tallest buildings. That being said, it will be the tallest building in the greater washington area when it is complete. Height-wise is will be beaten only by the Washington Monument at 555 feet (and various antenna structures that are even taller.)
How will the new building compare to the exisitng 14-story building? In the Capital One Design Guidelines submitted to Fairfax County there is an interesting cross section showing the proposed heights of the existing Capital One building as compared to the existing one.
As can be seen on the illustration the building will be quite a bit taller than the existing building to the left in the illustration. Also shown is a planned hotel and Scotts Crossing Connector as well as the existing community of Gates of McLean.
For more information on the planned construction, see the design guidelines.
