With a daily ridership exceeding 36,000 the Rosslyn Metrorail Station is the busiest station in Virginia. Due to the steadily increased usage, the Arlington County Board approved the addition of an additional entrance to the metro station in 2010.
Per the Arlington County’s Department of Environmental Services (Transportation Division)improvements will include:
- Three new high-speed, high-capacity elevators that will provide more options to get to the station and make it easier and safer for those with disabilities and riders with strollers or luggage
- An emergency evacuation stairwell for improved safety
- An additional entrance mezzanine and connecting passageway for better commuter flow
- A new station manager kiosk and fare collection equipment to better facilitate transactions
Excavation is currently ongoing and will continue until early 2012 (they are currently blasting into the bedrock at night…)
Right next door to the metro there will also be a new office building at 1812 N Moore Street by Monday Properties. This new 35 story building will be the regions tallest at 390 feet.
