The Silver Line has finally announced an opening date: Saturday July 26, 2014. A week of simulated service will start Sunday, July 20th.
Even though you cannot ride the train on the new sections of track until the 26th, you can ride the “Silver Line” on the existing stations from East Falls Church and Largo Town Center during the simulated service from the 20th (that way you can tell your friends you rode the Silver Line first!)
There are 5 new stations; McLean, Tysons Corner, Greensboro, Spring Hill and Wiehle-Reston East. During rush hours, trains will run every 6 minutes. In off-peak hours trains will run every 12 to 20 minutes.
As a consequences of the Silver Line opening Orange and Blue Line riders will be impacted the most:
- The Blue Line will loose two trains per hour during the rush hours.
- The Orange Line riders at the stations of West Falls Church, Dunn Loring/Merrifield and Vienna will see fewer trains during rush hours as well (the Rush Plus service is discontinued.)Trains will still arrive and depart every 6 minutes.
- Riders on the Orange Line stations farther in (East Falls Church and inwards) will be able to ride the new Silver Line metro trains so their service level will arrive more frequently.
There will be other issues as well that I am sure Metro will work out after a while – one being that overall ridership should increase and crowding on platforms downtown may increase as well in places like Metro Center etc. Bus services will be changed as well.
Anyways, seems like we are finally there! If you would like a home within a mile from the new metro stations, please visit Tysonsliving.com or give us a call at 703 560-3424. We specialize in the areas around the new metro stations.
